The ARP Odyssey was an
analog synthesizer originally produced in 1972 by the American
manufacturer ARP Instruments, Inc. that quickly garnered a faithful
following among musicians. Well respected for its high value, ease
to play and portability, the ARP Odyssey had undergone several
improvements during its history and continued to be a long-seller
until manufacturing stopped in 1981 due to economic hardships and
the digital surge. Loved by a wide range of musicians as a
historical classic, its sound can be heard on numerous classic
songs. Now in 2015, KORG has brought back the ARP Odyssey for today. With the advisory assistance of David Friend, the co-founder of ARP Instruments, KORG has completely reproduced the original circuitry for artists looking to recreate classic sounds and explore new ones. Together the engineers at KORG and Arp were able to nailthe sound and feel of the original. Every detail has been carefully considered to stay true to the quality of the original, down to the sophisticated semi-hard case. The legendary ARP sound is loved to this day. Long stopped, the wheels of history have again begun to move. |

In 2015, veertig jaar na de introductie van het origineel, schokte KORG de synthwereld met de ARP ODYSSEY door deze in vrijwel oorspronkelijke vorm op de markt te zetten. Met de adviserende hulp van een van de oprichters van ARP destijds, David Friend, werden de oorspronkelijke circuits gereproduceerd. Nu is er een desktop-versie zonder klavier die naadloos aansluit in modulaire set-ups en als module bij moderne DAW’s.
Ondanks het ontbreken van een klavier werd de oorspronkelijke
lay-out en feel toch weer secuur gevolgd. De module kreeg om die
reden ook weer een robuust, stalen chassis. Rev3 is met zijn
opvallend oranje-zwarte design veruit de bekendste
verschijningsvorm van de ARP ODYSSEY, maar KORG heeft toch ook
de geschiedenis van ARP willen eren door ook de witte Rev1 uit
te brengen. De scherpe, bijtende sound van de ARP ODYSSEY laat zich door geen enkele plug-in of app in een computer of tablet natuurgetrouw reproduceren, wat van deze ODYSSEY-module een must maakt voor synthliefhebbers. |

De huidige zwarte KORG
electribe 2 sampler krijgt een flitsend metallic rode versie als familie-uitbreiding met een knipoog naar de legendarische oer-electribe. Tegelijkertijd is er een nieuwe versie van het besturingssysteem met een aanzienlijk aantal verbeteringen en uitbreidingen. Het sleutelwoord bij de electribe’s is nogal altijd ‘snelheid’. In no time zet je producties neer waarmee je zo het podium op of de studio in kunt. Je kunt eigen samples inladen, maar de electribe sampler is ook afgeladen met preset-geluiden en –patronen. Ook kun je je eigen performance resamplen. De update version 2 biedt de mogelijkheid om patronen in een chain onder te brengen en heeft ook een undo-functie. Doordat je je electribe-productie heel snel en supersimpel naar Ableton kunt exporteren, is het op professioneel niveau nabewerken en delen ook nog ‘s eitje. Inspelen is met de pads en het XY touch pad zeer intuïtief. Syncen met andere KORG-apparaten zoals de Monotribe, de Volca-serie en de SQ-1 gaat zeer soepel en met andere apparatuur sync te via MIDI of USB. Externe geluidsbronnen kun je bewerken via de audio-ingang met de stepsequencer als sturing voor het filter en de effecten. Bestaande electribes kunnen naar version 2 worden geüpdatet. Volca FM |

Voor veel muzikanten en producers is FM-synthese een soort abracadabra. Met de volca fm komt daar rigoureus verandering in. Je kunt via MIDI sounds inladen van de fameuze, legendarische DX7, maar zelf sounds maken is net zo leuk en veel intuïtiever; een klassieke vorm van synthese in het handige en budgetvriendelijke volca-formaat. Met FM-synthese, digitale geluidsopwekking door middel van frequentiemodulatie, zijn heel andere sounds te creëren dan met de alom bekende subtractieve synthese die werkt met oscillators met standaard golfvormen en filters. FM leent zich erg goed voor metaalachtige sounds en organische, vervreemdende pads en priemende leads en bassen. Ook kun je FM-synths heel dynamisch laten reageren op velocity en zijn ze daarmee heerlijk bespeelbaar. Door de zes operators, net als in de oorspronkelijke DX, heb je erg veel mogelijkheden sounds bijna letterlijk te boetseren. |

In de traditie van KORG's
volca's is de volca fm voorzien van een inspirerende 16-stappen
sequencer, waarin je ook veranderingen van de parameters kunt
opnemen. Deze sequencer biedt echter extra mogelijkheden om
sequencerpatronen ritmisch ten opzichte van elkaar te laten
verschuiven en patronen kunnen worden gelinkt tot sequences van
maximaal 256 stappen. Naast deze sequencer is de volca fm voorzien
van een arpeggiator. De volca fm is driestemmig, maar je kunt er een tweede aan koppelen en de sounds overnemen - clonen, waardoor er een zesstemmige FM-synth ontstaat. Natuurlijk laat de volca fm zich probleemloos integreren in een configuratie met ander volca's of de SQ1. Om sounds nog breder te maken is de volca fm voorzien van een chorus-effect.
